This week we are happy to announce that our friends at Riverdale Fitness Mill have joined the Meatless Mondays pledge. As a fitness and wellness centre they were happy to participate when we approached them with the idea and also provided us with a fantastic vegan chili recipe, as well as a great promotion to their members to get as many of them as possible involved in the pledge too! Keep reading for more information about the gym and the tasty recipe they shared with us.

Riverdale Fitness Mill

Located in an 1871 Woolen Mill in Inglewood, Riverdale Fitness Mill (RFM) is much more than your average gym. At Riverdale, we have the fitness industry’s best equipment, awesome group classes, qualified Personal Trainers, and a very friendly Front Desk staff who will always greet you with a smile and a warm “hello”. Our members will tell you that RFM feels much more like a small community than a gym. At Riverdale, we believe in a well-rounded, holistic approach to health. To help you achieve optimal health, we offer a variety of services including: Nutrition Counseling, metabolic testing, Reflexology, Hydrotherapy Massage (coming soon!), and of course, Personal Training. Our Personal Trainers play a very important role at RFM. Working with a Personal Trainer will benefit you in many ways, including: a personalized program suited to your specific needs and goals, a structured and progressive plan, someone to guide you, motivational support, accountability and one-on-one attention. It is a proven fact that individuals, or small groups, that work with a Personal Trainer tend to lose more body fat, gain more muscle, and see better results than those who choose to work out alone.

Come by Riverdale today to receive a FREE tour and a 3 x Trial Pass. Sign-up before March 15th and receive three months FREE!* Also, tell us that you are participating in Meatless Mondays and receive a complimentary Personal Training session. We look forward to meeting you!

Vegan Chili

Vegan, gluten-free, grain-free, refined sugar-free, soy-free. Recipe from www.ohsheglows.com

  • 1.5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 heaping cups diced sweet onion
  • 2 tablespoons minced garlic (about 4 med/lg cloves)
  • 2 jalapeños, seeded (if desired) and diced
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 lg. red bell pepper, seeded and diced
  • 1 (28-oz) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 6 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 (15-oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 (15-oz) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2-3/4 teaspoon fine grain sea salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce

  1. In a large pot, saute the onion and the garlic in the oil over medium heat until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and stir.
  2. Add the jalapeños, celery, and bell pepper and saute for another 5-7 minutes or so, until softened.
  3. Now add the can of diced tomatoes (with the juice), broth, and tomato paste. Stir to combine. Increase heat to medium-high.
  4. Add the drained and rinsed beans, along with the chili powder, cumin, oregano, salt, cayenne, and hot sauce. Simmer the mixture until thickened, about 10-15 minutes and adjust seasonings to taste if necessary.
