LIVING IN THE CITY AND LOVING IT!

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of watching a program which featured vast numbers of community minded organizations which are shaping the landscape of what we call the communities of “Toronto”.

Programs such as NOT FAR FROM THE TREE, which focuses on picking and sharing fruit from the backyard, to

LEAF, where you can find volunteers busy planting native trees in yards, for a subsidized cost, to

#SITTO who come to the rescue for the lack of public seating, to literally brings seating/chairs, into areas where there is a need for taking a hold off …

Then there are the busy folks at URBAN REPAIR SQUAD, whose slogan is to ask for forgiveness later … simply because, waiting for permission, may be a very long process. Their commitment to making the city safer and more viable, via better means to enjoy bike transportation safely, is truly a testament, to how much folks in general want to make the communities of Toronto a better place to live.

DOWNTOWN FENCE REMOVAL,   is a volunteer organization which will remove fences without a fee, to remove the barriers, and create more community spirit and awareness. The LANEWAY PROJECT is also a very community minded organization committed to enriching and strengthening public spaces by involving neighbours in the beautification of the extensions of their backyards.

Finally, a group of hard working women, known as the THORNCLIFFE WOMENS COMMITTEE , created a community market (and much more) every Friday, outdoors, for the entire neighbourhood, and beyond to unite and share space and ideas with families and community.

These ideas are not new or unique to Toronto communities, however, what is interesting, is that this list is just the tip of the iceberg of what is going on in which regards to community organizations in the fastest growing city in North America, and one of the most culturally diverse cities on earth. Live in Toronto? You might want to know about these or many other such organizations, and get involved… it’s your city …

Please note that next Monday is the first day of our holidays, and we will be available for appraisal requests as of the 9th of August. Wishing everyone a fantastic week, as well as a happy & safe upcoming holiday weekend!
