Alzheimer’s Awareness Month

This January, Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, the Alzheimer Society of Toronto is reframing the conversation—celebrating the spark that continues to shine beyond a diagnosis and showing what’s possible through connection, creativity, and support.
Conversations about dementia are still too quiet—and too often shaped by fear and stigma.
While 41% of Canadians have a personal connection to Alzheimer’s or dementia, only 24% believe they could live well with the disease. That gap isn’t a lack of resilience—it’s a lack of understanding, visibility, and hope.
Fear and negative perceptions continue to shape how we talk about and experience dementia. But what if more Canadians knew they weren’t alone? That help exists. That life doesn’t end with a diagnosis.
Life continues after a dementia diagnosis. We continue to evolve, grow, and connect.
And yet, 2 in 5 people believe they’ll be treated differently if diagnosed, and 19% would delay seeking help. The truth is simpler—and more human: when we reach out, we discover we’re still capable of passion, play, creativity, and joy.
Life continues after a dementia diagnosis.
And so do we.
Because the spark in all of us endures.
