**From The Town: Councellor Doug Beffort was invited to explain Council’s decision regarding the use of the community centre for special events and namely a New Years Eve party. A recent motion from Counsellor Beffort to allow the use of the facility was defeated in a vote citing insurance and necessity for “not setting a precedent / and/or special favouritism for Inglewood”. The case was raised that the small villages in the town cannot afford to use our own facilities, which, in some cases the very community funded, founded and built. Cheltenham is going through the same issues. Doug welcomed the group and applauded all that these village associations do. Doug noted that he tried to achieve some common sense but his motion was out voted and that he was disappointed. Doug did note that if Caledon staff are included in the plan and are paid to be there, then additional insurance is not required. It was intoned that these staff would typically get double or triple time. It was also queried as to whether the Inglewood Firefighters count as staff – apparently they are not so we are left with no change in status. That sends an odious message…. Counsellor Beffort did suggest that all of the village association get together and plan an approach to council to deal with similar issues. Another question asked was “what is the role of the community fund set aside by Council if it cannot be used to offset the cost of the special events”.

**Garden club has put the two main village beds to bed for the winter! Well done, it makes a difference to everyone to see the care taken with the village lands. Plans are in place for decorating the Gazebo with garlands and the like. Garden club will be seeking further volunteers as the season approaches and final dates are determined

**Farmer’s market – much better location at the arena! Better marketing and signage is required for next year. The farmers market is good for Inglewood and is something to grow and crow about.

**Jinglewood moved to December 15th at 5:30 to allow for hopefully more snow. Hot chocolate, Santa, wagon rides and singing at the StationLands community tree. It was decided that no food other than hot chocolate, cookies and mini marshmallows would be served.

**From Inglewood United Church: Inglewood United Church closed for the first time this summer in 176 years. Finances and dwindling congregations are the root cause. We noted with alarm this summer, that when a United Church closes, the corporate church takes the monies and in the case of Alton, did not return any monies from the sale of the church to a) Alton – village association, school and library, b) Knox United, c) Caledon Community services or Bethel house. The Inglewood Church Board, 3 of 5 members present, have opted not to close, come (you know what) and high water! We are now planning on removing the pews from the sanctuary and creating more non-denominational community space. The mission of our church is “Spirit in Community” and the community is what this facility serves. We are seeking new uses for the space in addition to regular Sunday services. There is talk in the community from non-church goers that there is support for a “Friends of Inglewood United” which needs to be now defined. Bottom line, if the church closes the manse next door and the church building will be unquestioningly sold by the Corporate Church. Approximately $1million dollars in capital and goodwill will disappear. There will be no control over what denomination may eventually occupy this space or the future re-development of the corner at McLaughlin and MacDonald. To that effect, we will be starting music lessons on the very near future, in the New Year, the pews will be removed and all in the village will be encouraged to view this as an opportunity for community. We of course welcome all new comers, but at the same time realize that it is not faith anymore that will drive this institution forward in the very near future. It is within our ability, however, to control the fate of one of the three buildings in our village. We seek from VIA, the communication network and ability and to raise awareness of the Church. We seek non-denominational leaders and others who wish to use a beautiful space. Opportunities abound!

We have a fabulous music program and are seeking all community singers aged 7-107. We have of two performances planned – Dec 6th Soup and Sing and our traditional Christmas Eve Service.
